I
want to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for
inviting me to attend the Undoing Racism workshops put on by
The People's Institute June 27-29, 2007. The experience was
one of the most profound of all development opportunities afforded
throughout my professional career. The presenters, Diana, Cheryl,
and Michael, helped me to understand issues relevant to the
topic in a whole new way. In fact, my whole concept of racism
has been turned upside down (in a necessary way). The entire
presentation was concise and engaging. Each day, it seemed we
had just begun to dig deep into the issues with a dialogue so
intense, when we had to wrap up for the day. Time flew! As an
added touch, the food you provided was outstanding. Thanks for
taking such good care of us all.
As
a result of "joining the conversation," I find
myself now making every effort to incorporate the learning through
internal dialogues, "Would I feel the same way if...?"
You have really flipped an important internal switch for me
for which I will be forever grateful. As a "gatekeeper,"
I am also taking steps to ensure equitable delivery of school
resources, as an agent of change, in such a way to empower rather
than continue to act as an agent of oppression.
Every
educator should be afforded this same transformative opportunity.

I
just wanted to thank you for absolutely changing my view of
the world. I just got back to my office this morning and I have
spent the better part of it sharing with my co-workers what
I learned this past week. I cannot express how much this
information has change the way I see the world and my place
in it. It has all clicked in my head now. Now I
realize that I have a responsibility to the people around me
to share the information that I know have so that WE CAN ALL
understand where we have been, how we got there, and where we
are headed if we ALL don't realize that things need to change.
I am 100% committed to making sure the people around me (both
professionally and personally) hear some of what I now know.
Thank you again for changing my life in a way that I didn't
even realize was possible.
